Borussia Dortmund wins the mtu Cup 2025
Borussia Dortmund wins the mtu Cup in Friedrichshafen for the second time in almost 20 years – the last time they lifted the cup was in the venerable Bodenseesporthalle on classic indoor flooring.
This year, in front of 6,000 spectators in Exhibition Hall A1, Borussia prevailed in the final against the strong young footballers from Orlando City SC – meaning that the Americans almost pulled off a tournament coup at their first attempt. In the end, two late goals gave BVB a 2-1 victory. The final also saw the best player (Hamzath Mohamadou, Borussia Dortmund) and the best goalkeeper (Luan Silva, Orlando City SC) face each other.
Luan Silva almost had a say in the top scorer award with two direct goalkeeper goals. However, this went to Adin Delic from last year's winners VfB Stuttgart with 11 goals. Stuttgart prevailed against FC Bayern Munich's youth team in the third-place play-off, confirming last year's result with a strong third place. Noah Nikic, who until a few years ago wore the jersey of local club VfB Friedrichshafen, was also part of the team from the state capital.
The 21st edition of the mtu Cup once again set new records and standards in the U15 category. With almost 10,000 visitors over the two days of the tournament – 6,000 of them on the final day – the Cup set a new attendance record. 94 games and 441 goals also resulted in an average of over 4 goals per game – the highest victories were achieved by Orlando City SC (against Union MBK) and Bayer 04 Leverkusen (against TSG Ailingen) with 13:0 each. Although the local heroes were all eliminated on the first day of the tournament, they still put up a very respectable fight. Particularly noteworthy was the narrow defeat of VfB Friedrichshafen II, who ultimately lost 0:1 to the youth team of the current Champions League winners and mtu Cup debutants Paris Saint-Germain.
With over 200 volunteers, countless hours of work and over 250 donated cakes, all the coaches, players and parents of our VfB family once again impressively demonstrated their ‘Champions League level’.
