Europe's most popular U15 Indoor Football Cup
The mtu-Cup, the international tournament for the under-fifteens,occurred the 17th time on 30 November and 1 December 2019. This year, Barcelona became the first team to claim the title four times. For the 7th time now, the venue for the tournament was Friedrichhafen's magnificent ZF arena, where a line-up of top footballing names had been awaited us. Besides junior teams from the German football league, we were welcoming, as every year, top teams from throughout Europe. In two exciting days of football, 16-18 junior teams from the professional leagues will be challenged by 6-8 local teams in their bid for the mtu-Cup. As every year, the big question will be: who's going to ruffle the feathers of the favorites?
The two-day indoor tournament on Lake Constance is not only a magnet for top teams and their many fans, but also for scouts throughout Europe who come on the search for talent. Young talents who made it big include the 2014 World Cup champions Thomas Müller, Mario Götze & Julian Draxler, as well as Joshua Kimmich and David Alaba from Bayern Munich, Marco Reus and Mario Götze from Borussia Dortmund, Emre Can from Juventus Turin, Liverpool's Joel Matip, Barcelona's Marc-André ter Stegen, and Granit Xhaka and Bernd Leno from Arsenal. As youngsters, they all showed us what they are made of at the mtu-Cup. Thomas Tuchel, currently trainer at Paris Saint Germain, has also put in a stint here.
The football section of sports association VfB Friedrichshafen is organizer and main sponsor of the tournament, whilst the Rolls-Royce brand mtu is the name-giver. Here's looking forward to a great tournament!
